The Hisense D16CW portable dehumidifier extracts up to 16 litres of water a day in a room of up to 30 m². It suits homes where damp shows: condensation on the windows in the morning, a musty smell, mould in corners or on bathroom seals. At 28 cm wide by 50 cm high and 20 cm deep, it moves from room to room without blocking the way.

A dedicated laundry drying mode complements standard dehumidifying. The principle is simple: by driving the room humidity right down, the appliance speeds up evaporation from hanging laundry, a useful alternative when no tumble dryer is fitted and the season rules out drying outside. Defrosting is automatic, an essential function below roughly 15 degrees, the temperature at which frost forms on the exchanger and would otherwise block extraction.

Its 2 litre tank calls for an honest remark: at full extraction, it fills in a little over three hours. In a very damp room, that means emptying it several times a day, a constraint worth knowing before buying. In maintenance use, once the humidity has come down, extraction slows markedly and emptying becomes far less frequent.

The appliance is controlled over Wi-Fi from an app, which lets you start it remotely and schedule it without moving.
